Placement Opportunities with Medical Edge Australia
At HEED Health Education, we know that the best way to prepare for a career in emergency health care is by learning on the job. That’s why we’ve partnered with Medical Edge Australia, one of the country’s leading private ambulance and medical service providers, to give our students guaranteed* placement opportunities.
As part of this partnership, you’ll gain hands-on experience across Medical Edge Australia’s diverse events sector—from community gatherings to major events at the MCG and other leading venues. Working alongside experienced clinicians, you’ll apply your skills in real scenarios, build genuine confidence, and see the impact emergency health professionals make when it matters most.
During your clinical placement, you’ll be paired with a qualified mentor who will guide, support, and challenge you as you develop your practical capability. This authentic exposure ensures you graduate with both the qualifications and the competence you need to step directly into the workforce.
Several of our qualifications include mandatory clinical placement hours, giving you the opportunity to apply your learning in real healthcare environments. These placements are a core part of your training, ensuring you develop the practical skills, professional behaviours and confidence needed to enter the emergency health and pre-hospital care workforce. These qualifications include:
- Certificate IV in Health Care – 80 hours of clinical placement required
- Diploma of Emergency Health Care – 160 hours of clinical placement required
Conditions apply to the guaranteed placement with Medical Edge Australia (MEA). Placement is not available to students currently holding managerial roles within competing organisations. Students already employed or volunteering with another organisation are expected to complete their placement hours with that organisation. Placement availability is subject to geographical location and MEA’s operational areas. HEED Health Education and Medical Edge Australia will endeavour to provide access to placement shifts; however, students, particularly those in rural or remote areas, may be required to travel to access these placements.
Before attending Clinical Placement, students will be required to provide evidence of:
- Current Working with Children’s check
- Current CPR (HLTAID009) and First Aid (HLTAID011) certificates
- National Police Clearance
- Flu and any other vaccination as required by the employer organisation
- Record of compliance with immunisation requirements
